Die Schweizerische Vogelwarte wurde 1924 von der Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für Vogelkunde und Vogelschutz gegründet. 1954 wurde sie in eine Stiftung umgewandelt. Die Bibliothek befindet sich seit 2009 im neuen Forschungsgebäude 'Seerose'.
